How to add PDF margins for notes or printing

Enlarge sheets without scaling their contents and check dimensions and interactive elements in the copy.

The page grows around its contents

Adding margins creates a larger sheet and places the original contents inside an equal white border. Page count and order remain the same.

A 10 mm margin adds 20 mm to total width and 20 mm to total height. Contents do not shrink, although viewers or printers may scale them to fit A4.

Choose a useful measurement

Try 8 to 15 mm for notes or hole punching and test-print one sheet. Allowed values are 1 to 50 mm, equal on all four sides.

Select pages such as 1,3,5-8 or leave selection blank for all. For groups with different measurements, perform separate operations.

  1. Finalize order, orientation and page selection first.
  2. Load the PDF and choose pages and millimeters.
  3. Create a copy and check centering and dimensions.
  4. Add numbers, logos or watermarks afterward on the final version.

Forms, links and signatures

Selected sheets are reconstructed inside new pages. Appearance may survive while a form, annotation, link, attachment or signature loses its behavior.

Editing a signed PDF can invalidate its signature. Preserve the original and test needed features, not just visual appearance. The output may also be larger: this operation does not compress.

Margins, cropping and empty sheets

Inserting blank pages creates additional sheets; adding margins enlarges existing sheets. Cropping reduces the visible area. Choose according to your intended result.

Processing is local and supports up to 300 pages. Device memory also limits complex files. Check rotated sheets and test printer scaling before the full batch.
